Completing a Law Degree in 3 years and 6 month is undoubtedly a success story and is Federica Lorenzetti’s story. She graduated with 110 cum laude and with special mention, having completed a thesis entitled “The legal status of public companies, the business crisis and managers’ liability”, supervised by Professor Aristide Police.

Federica chose to study at Luiss because the Law Department “is undoubtedly one of the best in Italy”. An important factor impacting her university experience was the option to sit exams early. Federica reported: “the turning point came when I managed to sit the second Private Law exam (Diritto Privato due) and Criminal Law (Diritto Penale) during the same exam session. That semester was tough. The first lockdown was very challenging , but it helped me stay focused to reach my goal. I managed to sit four exams early and the Civil Procedure exam (Procedura Civile)”.

A fast-tracked university path that many deemed unfeasible to complete. “Many people believe it wasn’t doable, but I am happy with what I achieved, especially considering the context we are currently living in. I feel I have achieved without wasting time. I can’t sit and do nothing”.

Federica recalled memories at Luiss with great enthusiasm. “Beyond studying, I established friendships at Luiss, I became a member of the tennis team and I undertook various work experiences at the Luiss offices. The most valuable learning experience was my internship at Linklaters (based in Sicily) where I worked in the Acquisition and Antitrust department. Despite the distance, I felt fully involved in what was happening in the law firm”.

Federica reported the University’s greatest quality is its organization, in terms of both exams and lectures. “This aspect is very helpful, especially for first-year students commencing a new life chapter. Also, Luiss makes you feel at home, it’s like a big family. In hindsight, I would choose Luiss again and again”.

Looking back at her university experience, Federica stated to have only one regret. “I really wanted to do an Erasmus in third year, but I had to come to terms with not going because of Covid”.

She advises incoming university students “to never stop believing in dreams and to persevere”. She recommends “to have a clear daily plan for study purposes and other commitments. I did one on a daily basis and had to finish it, even if it meant staying up late”.

Federica shared how she envisions her future. “I would like to do an LLM in America, because the international realm fascinates me”. Her goal in the short-term is to start legal practice. Federica is ambitious about her future career and reported: “from a very young age, I wanted to join the judiciary service, like my father. I would like to sit the exam although because it is challenging, I reckon it will take 3 or 4 years to prepare for it by gaining experience working in law firms”.
