#Luiss.MasterClasses - Intersections is a new series of events organized by the University to reflect on intersections between disciplines, cultures and contexts. The talks are part of the wider #Luiss.MasterClasses project, with the first two series dedicated to the pandemic and related themes.
The complex challenges of modern society require original hypotheses and interpretations to redefine the problems and their frames, in other words, coordination of the points of view of various fields and interactions between distant disciplines. At Luiss, we are convinced that our true strength lies in diversity and variety: driving our future is the intersection of fields and disciplines, different paths, foreign cultures and new prospectives.
The third event in the series entitled Third Culture will be held on Monday, December 14 at 7:00 pm. Guest speakers are Luca Guadagnino, Film Director, Cinematographer, Writer and Producer, and Doris Sommer, Ira Jewell Williams Professor at Harvard University. Introducing and moderating the talk is Rector Andrea Prencipe.
On Monday, November 30 at 7:00 pm, the second event, Mathematics and Politics, was held. Special guests were Giovanni Orsina, Director of the Luiss School of Government and Chiara Valerio, Author and Editor in Chief of Italian Narrative, Marsilio publishing house. Introduction and moderation by Luiss Rector Andrea Prencipe.
"Mathematics helps up decipher complexity and has, in a nutshell, a strong community building vocation. It is made up of rules and is dialectical in an age of prevailing assertiveness," stated Chiara Valerio.
"Mathematics is a set of rules capable of subverting hierarchies. As such, it imitates democracy, which attempts to create a system to discipline power and guarantee social order," concluded Giovanni Orsina.
The event will be transmitted live on Luiss Social TV.
