Assessment test: I semester 2024/2025 a.y.
In general we inform that:
- the assessment test, if scheduled, is mandatory
- students with no prior knowledge of the language do not need to sit the test
- it is not possible to take the test in a different date/time
- it is always recommended to take the test on the fixed date in order to avoid delays for being inserted in a suitable group
- in case of absence students will be placed into a beginner group and, over the first lesson, the teacher will have the opportunity to promote a group change if necessary
English assessment test – Undergraduate School
Economics and Management, Law, Political Science and Politics: Philosophy and Economics
Students enrolled in the first year of a Degree Program who are going to attend English as a mandatory language will be required to take an assessment test (if not already taken during the admission test) in order to be split into groups.
The test is going to be held online during the following date/time according to the degree program:
Economics and Management: Tuesday, September 10 from 8:30 am – in correspondence of the first lesson
Law: Wednesday, September 11 from 8:30 am – in correspondence of the first lesson
Political Science and Politics: Philosophy and Economics: students will receive a link via e-mail to take the assessment test from Tuesday 3 to Monday September 9
Close to the day of the test students will receive an e-mail on their Luiss account (@studenti.luiss.it) with the indication of the timetable and the virtual room where they are required to sit the test. Students who took the English assessment test during the Admission Test (Summer School 2023 and Admission Tests of February/May 2024) are exempted from retaking the test as they will be placed into groups on the basis of the results they have already achieved.
If you have one of the following international certificates: IELTS, CAE, FCE, TOEFL and Aptis ESOL Advanced (issued within 2 years) or an English Diploma you can send a copy by the day of the test to cla@luiss.it in order to evaluate you exemption from the test. However, any certificate/Diploma can exempt you from attending the mandatory course.
Business Administration, Economics and Business, Global Law and Management and Artificial Intelligence
Students enrolled in the English-taught Bachelor’s Degree Programs in Business Administration, Economics and Business, Global Law and Management and Artificial Intelligence are required to sit an online mandatory English assessment test aimed at assessing the required minimum level of B2.1. The test can be taken from Tuesday 3 to Monday September 9 after receiving an e-mail on the Luiss account (@studenti.luiss.it).
Students who demonstrated the English level requested during the Admission Test (Summer School 2023 and Admission tests in February/May 2024), students who have been admitted directly through SAT, ACT and IB Diploma certification and students who took an English Diploma are exempted from the English language test and course.
Students who have an English certification attesting a B2 level issued within the last 2 years can send a copy within the day of the test to cla@luiss.it in order to evaluate the exemption from the test.
Students who achieved a level below B2.1 must attend an English course with a final exam in order to achieve the required threshold within the end of the first academic year. The results will not be recorded in the student’s career and no credits will be acquired.
English assessment test – Graduate School
Students who took the English assessment test during the Admission Test (April 2024) and students who took the final exam during their Bachelor’s Degree program in Luiss are exempted from taking the assessment test as they will be placed into groups on the basis of the results they previously achieved (regardless of the date of the exam).
Students who did not take the English assessment test during the Admission Test and Luiss students who did not attend an English course during their Bachelor’s Degree Program are required to sit the assessment test even though their degree program was entirely taught in English.
Close to the day of the test students will receive an e-mail on their Luiss account (@studenti.luiss.it) with the indication of the timetable and the room where they are required to sit the test.
Government, Adminstration and Politics, International Relations and Policies and Governance in Europe
The test is going to be held in presence in Viale Romania in the following days and time:
Government, Adminstration and Politics: Wednesday September 11 starting from 8:30 am - in correspondence of the first lesson
International Relations: Monday September 9 starting from 2:00 pm - in correspondence of the first lesson
Policies and Governance in Europe: Thursday September 12 starting from 9:00 am - in correspondence of the first lesson
If you have one of the following international certificates: IELTS, CAE, FCE, TOEFL and Aptis ESOL Advanced (issued within 2 years) or an English Diploma/Bachelor’s degree you can send a copy by the day of the test to cla@luiss.it in order to evaluate your exemption from the test. Accounting, Control and Finance and Marketing (in Italian)
The test is going to be held online on Thursday, September 12 starting from 11:30 am.
If you have one of the following international certificates: IELTS, CAE, FCE, TOEFL and Aptis ESOL Advanced (issued within 2 years) or an English Diploma/Bachelor’s degree you can send a copy by the day of the test to cla@luiss.it in order to evaluate your exemption from the test. Please note that any certificate/Diploma can exempt you from attending the mandatory course.
Chinese, French, German and Spanish assessment tests
In order to be assigned to a language course, students of Chinese, French, German and Spanish need to take a mandatory assessment test that will be carried out over the first lesson.
The test is compulsory for students who are starting to attend the above-mentioned courses in this semester.
Please find below the assessment tests schedule:
- Tuesday, September 10 - the test will be held online (except the Chinese test that will be carried out in presence) starting from 8:30 am for students enrolled in the II year 2024/2025 of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Business Administration and Management and Computer Science, in the II year 2024/2025 of the Master’s Degree Program in Marketing - Digital and Strategic Management Digital and for students enrolled in the III 2024/2025 year of Economics and Business coming back from Utrecht (mandatory language)
- Saturday, September 14 - the test will be held in presence (Viale Romania/Viale Pola) starting from 9:00 am for students enrolled in the III year 2024/2025 of the Single Cycle Degree Program in Law who have selected an optional language whose courses are going to begin in this semester and for students enrolled in the III year 2024/2025 of Economics and Business coming back from Utrecht (optional language). No assessment test will be carried out on September 14 for Chinese (elective) and German (elective).
The time of the test is indicative as students will be split into groups.
Exemption from the tests and language courses will be granted if a student presents an international certification stating achievement of level B2. Certificates must be valid and granted no more than two years prior to the exemption request. Exemption is likewise provided in case students issue a secondary education diploma obtained according to the school system of the foreign country where the language is spoken. In order to evaluate your exemption from the course you can send a copy to cla@luiss.it by the day of the test.
Students who test at level B2 (B2.4 achieved) in initial level tests will be exempt from the course and granted the final language qualification.
Starting from Friday September 6 students will receive a convocation e-mail at their Luiss account - @studenti.luiss.it – with the details of time, delivery modalities and class in which the test is going to take place.
Students enrolled in a language course of Arabic, Portuguese and Russian do not have to take the assessment test. In this case the teacher will decide whether to move the student to a more suitable class.
Italian assessment test
In order to be assigned to a language course, students of Italian need to take a mandatory assessment test that will be carried out over the first lesson.
The test is compulsory for students who are starting to attend the above-mentioned course in this semester.
Please find below the assessment tests schedule:
- Thursday, September 12 - the test will be held online starting from 2:30 pm for students who selected / are eligible to select Italian as mandatory language
- Saturday, September 14 - the test will be held in presence (Via Parenzo) starting from 9:00 am for students who selected Italian in order to obtain credits for “Other Activities” and for students who attend Italian for personal interest (no credits)
The time of the test is indicative as students will be split into groups.
Students with a foreign citizenship who are enrolled in English-taught Bachelor’s degree programs are required to sit a mandatory Italian assessment test aimed at assessing the required minimum Italian level of A1.1. Absolute beginners must attend a language course with a final exam in order to achieve the required threshold of level A1.1 within the end of the first academic year.
Students who have an Italian certification attesting level A1.1 issued within the last 2 years can send a copy within the test to cla@luiss.it by the day of the test in order to evaluate the exemption from the test.
