From July 12 until July 14, LUISS hosted the annual meeting of the Academic Council of the United Nations System (ACUNS) on Human Rights, Migration and Global Governance.

Approximately 300 professors, members of institutions and NGOs as well as those interested in global governance in terms of human rights and migration.

On the first day, the Viale Romania campus held the event's inauguration, with talks from LUISS Professor Stefano Manzocchi, Professor Lorraine Elliott, Chair of ACUNS, Dundee University instructor Kurt Mills and Ambassador Giorgio Marrapodi, General Director of International Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ceremony came to an end with a talk from Leonel Fernandez, President and Founder of Fundacion Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and former President of the Dominican Republic. 

Three plenary sessions were held to take on current events in international migration and human rights:

  • "Push and Pull: Understanding and Addressing the Root Causes of Mass Displacement and Migration"
  • "State Responsibilities, Human Vulnerabilities: Mitigating the Consequences of Mass Displacement and Migration"
  • "The UDHR at 70: The UN System, Human Rights and Global Governance"

Participants were then able to participate in 55 workshops.

The meeting came to an end with a roundtable entitled "From Crisis to Renewal: Using 'Just Security' to Reinvigorate Global Governance", organized with the help of Professor Angela Del Vecchio, Professor Leonardo Morlino, Professor Pietro Pustorino and Dr. Silvia Scarpa
