On Thursday, January 18, starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Aula Magna of the Viale Pola campus, LUISS will celebrate the inauguration of the 2017-2018 academic year with the conferral of an honorary degree to Professor Edmund S. Phelps, Nobel Prize winner in Economic Sciences in 2006.
British economist Sir Anton Muscatelli, Principal of the University of Glasgow, will give the opening address entitled Universities as beacons of enlightenment in the 21st Century.
After the honorary award ceremony, Professor Phelps will give a lectio magistralis entitled A vital people: key to inclusive prospering and flourishing, introduced by a laudatio by Professor Giorgio Di Giorgio.
During the ceremony, LUISS President Emma Marcegaglia, Rector Paola Severino and General Manager Giovanni Lo Storto will give their remarks.
Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni will attend the ceremony.
