On Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Foro Italico Ballroom, LUISS X.ITE presented research conducted in collaboration with Ernst & Young on figures from the Internazionali BNL d'Italia and the economic impact for the City of Rome.
Participants in the round table included the President of Fit Angelo Binaghi with a team of LUISS professors and Ernst & Young experts that contributed to the project. Acting as event moderator was journalist Claudio Giua.
The LUISS X.ITE study proposes innovative research on the direct and indirect effects on the city’s reputation and image of the capital’s tennis tournament. Taking in 30 million euros, 12 percent higher than last year, the research predicts that this year’s Internazionali BNL d’Italia will profit 10 million euros.
According to estimates, out of 90 thousand spectators, 60 thousand came from outside of Rome. This influx of visitors significantly increased the city’s GDP thanks to hotels, restaurants, transportation, shopping and attractions. The city’s increased intellectual and reputational capital are also important. On one hand, those who collaborated on the event’s organization earned a competitive advantage on the job market thanks to earned or improved skills. On the other hand, the event’s presence on social networks generates value for both the tournament and the city which both benefit from shares by fans, followers, influencers and participants who diffuse a positive sentiment of the event.
For the City of Rome, these results translate into an immediate economic return expected to last a minimum of three years.
