Access to Master’s Degree courses is subject to the eligibility of the Bachelor’s Degree diploma with the applicable regulations governing qualifications granting access to university studies will be considered (for more information candidates are advised to read the Rules for University Enrollment by Foreign Students).

It should be borne in mind that pursuant to Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) regulations, qualifications awarded abroad grant access to master’s degree programs at an Italian university only if they comply with all the following requirements:

  • have been awarded by official universities in that foreign country’s education system;
  • entitle the student to enroll in graduate programs in the foreign country that awarded them;
  • have been awarded on completion of a bachelor’s degree program lasting at least 3 academic years.

Please note that qualifications evaluated as "professional degrees" by the relevant authorities cannot be considered eligible for access to Master's Degrees, but only for one-year Master programs.

Assessment of the eligibility of foreign qualifications

Students in possession of a foreign qualification are reminded that the final certificate of the qualification obtained must be accompanied by one of the following documents:

  • legalization by the Italian diplomatic or consular authorities for the country whose education system awarded the qualification and the relevant Declaration of Value (dichiarazione di valore)
  • recognition by Italian ministerial decree
  • statement of comparability issued by CIMEA
  • Diploma Supplement (only for Universities of countries within the Lisbon Convention)

The onus is on candidates to timely contact the local Italian diplomatic authorities in the foreign country whose education system awards the qualification, also in order to comply with the administrative procedures for the issuance of the required documentation. The documentation issued by the relevant authorities must indicate that the qualification awarded to the candidate is compliant with regulations for access to Bachelor's degrees in Italy.

Admission is conditional to verification of eligibility criteria based on Italian Ministerial guidelines and does not imply a verification of the validity of the qualification, which will be performed only in phase of enrollment.

In fact, enrollment is subject to the receipt of the above-mentioned documents and to the qualification meeting the requirements laid down by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the 2023/2024 academic year regarding enrollment at Italian universities.

Requesting a Statement of Comparability

Students may request the issuing of a Statement of Comparability on their Bachelor Degree from CIMEA through the dedicated procedure described below.

By visiting the following page students may create their account and find all information related to modality and timing of issue of the certificate, together with all information related to the necessary documents to proceed (in the INFO – Required Documents section). Please note that any charges related to the service are upon the students.

Directly through the portal, any student may reach out to a CIMEA expert in the “information request” section to request further information or in case they need support, even before submitting the request for the Statement of Comparability.
