On Tuesday, September 29, 2015, LUISS inaugurated Acqua, the third exhibit in the series Trasparenze – Quattro forme dell’invisibile.
The exhibit, sponsored by LUISS Cultural Activities and curated by the student group Anonima Curatori, is on display in the Aula Chiesa on the Viale Romania campus. The featured artists, Sabina Dragomir and Gianluca Panareo, were chosen during last year’s Art Under 35 Laboratory.
Third-year Economics and Management student Leonardo Paradisi says, “In these pieces, water is treated in a deeply personal way. We chose the juxtaposition of two very different artists that were able to transform an element of our daily lives into a seemingly conflicting vision, from the source of life to a nonconventional form.”
In the large paintings by Sabina Dragomir, water is a membrane that covers bodies like an amniotic liquid, isolating it - and at the same time liberating it - from all its bonds. The young Romanian artist represented by IAGA International Art Gallery Angels comes from a socio-cultural context that influences research on women’s bodies and conditions.
During the inauguration, artist and photographer Gianluca Panareo thanked the students for their hard work during the exhibit’s staging, “which demonstrates the careful and deep consideration that went into it. Coming from the world of theater and then art installations, I am particularly proud to be displaying in a space like the Aula Chiesa.”
Panareo’s work derives from a theatrical dimension, the result of a performance: “In the installationin the middle of the aisle, Little Ranger, water continuously tries to break down the physical barrier that its container creates. I wanted the element to seem an invisible hand that can become strength, through image and sound that defy the container’s walls.”
Acqua is always open to LUISS students, and to the public on select dates, until October 31. After Aria, Vetro and Acqua, the final exhibit in the series, Plastica, will be inaugurated in November, 2015.
