On February 2nd, 2022, the Ministry of University and Research has published the PRIN 2022 call for proposals, which allocates over 740 million to fund Projects of Relevant National Interest.
The aim of the initiative is to promote the national research system, strengthen interactions between universities and research institutions, and encourage Italian participation in initiatives within the framework of the European Union's Research and Innovation Framework Program.
The PRIN programme finances two-year projects which, due to their complexity and nature, require the collaboration of research units belonging to universities and research centres.
Approximately 741 million will be made available for 2022, with over 220 million reserved to fund projects presented by PIs under 40.
Compared to the previous call (PRIN 2020), the PRIN 2022 call introduces several novelties, including:
- the increase in funds made available by the MUR, which are more than 4 times higher than the 179 million allocated in PRIN 2020
- the contextual increase in funds made available to finance projects presented by PIs under 40
- the shorter duration of the projects (from 3 to 2 years)
- the maximum amount that can be requested by each consortium, which has been reduced up to 250.000 euro
- the mandatory involvement of at least two research units belonging to different Italian universities or research centers
The deadline for submitting project proposals for the 2022 window is on March, 31st, 2022.
